Cresime giovani

Padre Andrea, Padre Giuseppe

Registrations for the New Year of Catechism 2022-23 are now open.

Dear parents,

Welcome to the New Year of Catechism 2023-24.

We welcome with great joy the youth (age 13-17, from Year 9) for the course of preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation.

For the enrolment you can complete an online registration form that you can find here.

The course will start on Sunday October 8th 11am at Pallotti's (entrance Back Hill). Parents are quired to attend the first meeting.

The classes will take place every Sunday 11am-12.15pm. Some lessons will also be followed by the participation to the 12.30pm Holy Mass as a group. We will share the timetable at the beginning of the course.

We thank you in advance for accompanying your children in their journey of faith, where, today more than ever, parents are called to be true witnesses.

We would like to take this opportunity to explain certain aspects of this year of preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation. We are going to complete the journey of Christian initiation with your children and we would like it to be as enjoyable as possible.

BAPTISM CERTIFICATE: If the candidate was baptised at St. Peter’s Italian Church you would need to provide the specific date of the Baptism, in order for the secretary to find the certificate in the Parish registries. In case the candidate was baptised in a different Church we must have a copy (not the original) of their Baptism Certificate, which should clearly state the name and the full address of the church.

SPONSOR’S CONFIRMATION CERTIFICATE: The sponsor must be a baptised person, who is also confirmed and leading a good, faithful Catholic life. He/she must be older than 16 years and cannot be the father or mother of the candidate. If the sponsor was confirmed at St. Peter’s Italian Church, you would need to provide the specific date of the Confirmation, in order for the secretary to find the certificate in the Parish registries. In case the sponsor was confirmed in a different Church we must have a copy (not the original) of their Confirmation Certificate, which should clearly state the name and the full address of the church.

In case of more than one sponsor, we would need the same for each sponsor.

LANGUAGE: The Confirmation course at the church of St. Peter takes place mainly in English as it is the common language spoken by all the students who usually take the Confirmation course, even if the main contents may be developed in two languages during the lessons  (English and Italian). All the candidates who still have difficulties with the English language will be accompanied even more closely in Italian. The lack of knowledge of the English language is not an obstacle for the Confirmation course.

MATERIALS: The first day of catechism your children will receive a folder and a workbook, a pen and a Bible. We ask the candidates to bring the folder with the Bible at every lesson. Candidates can keep the Bible after the course.

CATECHISM FEE: The fee is £35.00 (if there are siblings £30 for each child) it will cover the expenses during the year. In the past years the fee used to be paid on registration day , this year instead you can pay the fee on the first day of catechism.

HOLY MASS CELEBRATION: Sunday Mass is the center of the life of faith of every Catholic, particularly for candidates who are about to finish their initiation into Christian life. We will have dedicated appointments for participating to the Holy Mass all together with candidates, details will be included in the timetable.

ATTENDANCE: It is important that candidates are well prepared for the Sacraments because these are precious gifts from God. For this reason, it is crucial for children to not miss many lessons and that the children attend the catechism every Sunday to give continuity to the learning. The first day of catechism you will receive the timetable with all the appointments for this year. In case of absence, parents are asked to inform the catechists (in person or via email). Absences can be an obstacle to the children’s learning. In these cases Father Andrea will meet the parents to talk about the candidate's journey of catechism and will assess whether it is appropriate to continue.

MEETINGS WITH PARENTS: During the year, we will have few meetings with the parents and you will find them in the timetable. Some will be to prepare together for some important periods of the liturgical year and others to prepare Confirmation day.

RECEIVING CONFIRMATION IN ANOTHER CHURCH: Candidates who intend to receive Confirmation in Italy need a special permit which will be provided at the end of the course.

We are beginning a wonderful journey together and the intention of the catechists and of the priests of St Peter will be to prepare your children with joy following Jesus' teaching. We will have the opportunity to feel His love and to live as a community this unforgettable moment in your children’s life.

Looking  forward to starting this new year together, we thank you in advance for your help and support.
