INFORMATION FOR MARRIAGE PREPARATION COURSE
Documents required to get married

Carissimi,

During this year God will bestow upon you the gift of the Sacrament of Marriage. He will be the Guarantor of your love and vows. The Church as a Mother, wishes to prepare you for your future lives together.

Some would have you believe that the Church is misguided and old fashioned and does not understand today's problems. Those who hold these opinions do not care for, and scoff at the Church's teaching, but the consequences of this can be clearly seen in our society today especially in the breakdown of family life.

We are starting a Marriage Course sessions, which we hope, are meaningful rather than lessons in catechism or sermons. You may say "I have no spare time", I" have too many things to do", "I have to work", "I have repairs to do in the house we have just bought", "I live far away", "I can be good without having to go to Church", "I have no desire to be a Saint", "I consider myself better than those who go to Church regularly yet do not behave like Christians". There are elements of truth in all of these observations, but try to stop and think about your future life together. Build your home and family on solid foundations. You cannot buy Love. Have courage; God wants to give you true life and everlasting love.

Since we, the priests of this parish, are also Registrars we must ensure the information on the Certificate of Marriage that you give us is honest, to the best of your knowledge. It will state on the Certificate that the Italian Church is your usual place of worship. We do not expect you to attend Mass every Sunday, many of you live far away, but we will expect to see you on a frequent basis leading to your marriage.

I wish you the peace of Jesus Christ.

FR. CARMELO DI GIOVANNI
